The Dragons hit the floor this weekend at Marple Sports Arena in  Broomall, Pa  for its first ECRHA Regular Season Action.  After going 0-1-1 in pre-season, the Dragon seek  improvement, and what a better way to start the weekend than with a 10am re-match against Queens, the team that beat them in the pre-season.  They follow up that contest with a 7pm match against reigning DII regionals champion, Binghamton at 7pm.  The weekend wraps up Saturday at 1pm as Drexel faces off against Cornell.

Not long after the ECRHA event is over, the PCRHL season begins  at Marple.  Drexel will square off against neighboring Penn in both games; at 7pm, Drexel’s Tier I team takes on Penn 1.  At 8pm, Drexel’s Tier II team takes on Penn 2.

The season is officially underway with ECRHA games Saturday at 11:00am and 6:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm!

Coach Defelice will be leading a talented but unfinalized Division II Dragons roster into this weekend vs. Queens, UMass-Amherst, and Cornell. With  Queens and Umass-Amherst (both Division III teams) playing their first DII games and a brand new Drexel roster, this weekend will surely be a big event for DU roller hockey.  Good Luck to those making the trip to Feasterville!!!

Tryouts for all 2011-2012 teams will be Saturday, October 1 from 1pm to 4pm at the Hockey Dek in Springfield, Pa.

Tryout fee is 25$ to cover rink time and costs.

Please meet at the Drexel Pizza parking lot around 11:30am to get a ride.  Try to be at the Hockey Dek by noon to fill out paperwork and be on the rink promptly at 1:00.  Full equipment tryout, helmets, elbow & shin pads, gloves etc. are required. Please bring a light AND a dark jersey as well. All prospective and returning players are required to attend. Also, all prospective players are requested to fill out the recruitment sheet found on the website sidebar.

There will be a carpool leaving from the Drexel Pizza parking lot at 11:30am, join the message board to coordinate with drivers.

Just in time for tonight’s first pre-season practice, the Drexel University Roller Hockey Club is pleased to announce our own Kyle Defelice as the Head Coach of the Division II Dragons.

Coach Defelice comes to us on the heels of his MVP-Caliber performance in the 2010-2011 ECRHA Regionals, where he lead the Dragons to within 1 win of playing in the Division II ECRHA Championship Game.  Defelice finished tied for first in Regionals Scoring with 11 goals and 4 assists, for 15 points in only 5 games.  Coach Defelice is certified by the United States Coaches Association.

Kyle has been involved with the club since the 2006-2007 season, and captained the B Team his Sophomore year.  Defelice finished his collegiate career in the Top-10 of the club’s All-Time Leading Goal Scorers.

This announcement stems from former Head Coach and Drexel Roller Hockey legend Bill Sherwood’s decision to step away from behind the bench.  Bill was married this past summer to his wife, Kristin and they are expecting their first child this coming Fall.  Sherwood was also an integral part in the creation of the Delco Demons, an expansion franchise of the AIHL, where has has assumed the role of General Manager.

The DURHC wishes Bill and Kristin the best of luck with their future endevours, which will hopefully allow “Wood” to return to the club in the coming years!

Members from the Drexel Roller Hockey Club will be present tonight at Activities Unlimited.  To find out more information about this coming season stop by our table and introduce yourself.

We will be holding our first pre-season practice this coming Wednesday 9/21/11 at 11:30pm at the Hockey Dek in Springfield, Pa.  For those looking for rides from campus, meet in the Drexel Pizza parking lot between 10 and 10:15pm.

Preseason practices will start Wednesday, September 15th at 11pm at the Hockey Dek in Springfield.

Additional practices are scheduled for the 21st and 28th at the same time.  All new and returning players are strongly encouraged to attend, as this will be a great opportunity to lace up and prepare for tryouts (Sat, Oct 1st) and the upcoming season. Attention all new and returning players!!

This year’s preseason meeting will be held this Thursday, September 30th at 7:45 PM inside of the Landmark Americana restaurant located at 3333 Market St inside of the new DAC. This meeting is mandatory for all new players and returning players are encouraged to attend. Please ask for the Roller Hockey meeting at the front desk to be directed to the right place. PLEASE BRING A PEN OR PENCIL WITH YOU!

Thursday night following the meeting there will be an open rink practice session open to all players in preparation for Saturday’s tryout. The rink will be open from 1030PM – 12AM at the Feasterville Sportsplex in Feasterville PA (1331 O’Reilly Dr). All returning A team players are required to attend except those with clearance directly from Coach Sherwood.
