Regular Season Update

Tony Ho’s Division II Dragons have started off the season 2-4-1 after going 1-1-1 at the 422 Sportsplex event this passed weekend in Pottstown PA. The A team battled back to gain a point against stubborn Binghamton to keep them right in the thick of things in the Liberty Conference of the ECRHA. Pete Psyrris and Captain Chris Adams lead the team with 14 points each and goaltender Jim Heisler is second in the league in saves with 187 as the club prepares for their first travel tournament of the season in two weeks in Old Bethpage NY at Skate Safe America on November 21st-22nd.

The Dragons start off the weekend with a 1PM contest with Vermont (1-2-1), followed by an evening showdown at 6PM with the Terriers from Boston (2-2-0). Sunday’s schedule includes an early, 8AM faceoff with the University of Maine (1-2-1) followed by a noontime matchup against Albany (1-3-0).

Coach Ness’s PCRHL teams are both .500 and find themselves among the league’s elite in all categories. His Tier 1 Dragons lost a close, hard fought battle 4-3 against Penn and all their snipers, keeping league scoring leader and defending point champ, Perry Clarkson to zero points in the contest. The Tier 2 club had its hands full with a tough West Chester club and fell 5-1.

This weekend (11/15) will see the Tier 1 team battle Villanova at 2PM and Tier 2 take on Rowan at 3PM at the Marple Sports Arena. Good luck to all!

Regular Season Events Underway!

All of the DURHC teams will be opening regular season play this coming weekend, October 24th and 25th at the Marple Sports Arena in Broomall PA.

After an impressive preseason showing, Tony Ho’s Division II squad opens their season with a preaseason rematch against rival Temple at 8:00 AM on Saturday the 24th, followed by a showdown with division powerhouse, Neumann University, at 2:00 PM. Sunday will prove to be a challenge as well, as the Dragon’s A team faces off against head coach Ho’s alma mater, Millersville, bright and early at 7:00 AM, followed by another showdown with West Chester at 1:00 PM.

Head Coach Chris Ness’s Tier I and Tier II PCRHL teams will also open regular season play this coming weekend, with their times and opponents still yet to be determined. Coach Ness has a good returning cast of veterans as well as a promising core of underclassmen. This synergy will prove to restore Drexel as a mainstay in the PCRHL elite.

Good luck to all teams this season! For information on how to support your Dragon Roller Hockey program, please contact President Jim Heisler (president@durhc.com) for more information.

Tryout fee: $20

Bring: BOTH a light and a dark jersey.

Bring: Usual hockey stuff: skates, shin pads, gloves, stick, helmet.

Pre-Season Dryland Exercises

All players that wish to play in the pre-season Columbus Day Tournament must … MUST attend these exercise sessions.

From Club President Jimmy Heis:

…this season, drylands have been made mandatory. The following dates and times are the only sessions we have to warm up before rink time…

Saturday September 12th – 12P-2P
Saturday September 19th – 12P-2P

…These are mandatory. the coaching staff wants all returning a/b players to be mandatory and it is highly encouraged for all others to attend as well, as these have been very beneficial in the past. The penalty for not attending these workouts is you forfeit your roster spot for the Columbus Day Event. A Team Assistant Coach Justin Tashker will be running the show and taking attendence, so definitely make every attempt to show up. If you have a (good) scheduling conflict, you must PM [Justin] AND myself AT LEAST three days before the event and explain yourself.

This information, as well as the sheet that outlines the dryland exercises, can be found on the DURHC Messageboard, in the DURHC Club Board section (link is on the left navigation bar)…so if you have not yet registered for the message board, do so (and if you do, please please please follow the directions in the introductory threads to make the process go smoothly for everyone).

We hope to see you there!

Welcome to Drexel Roller Hockey

Thank you for visiting the official website of Drexel University’s premier club sport: Roller Hockey. A perpetual contender year in and year out for collegiate roller hockey’s highest honors, the Beasts from the East are among the nation’s best and brightest in the sport.

Comprised of four teams amongst two leagues, DU is a mainstay in the roller hockey lifestyle, at all levels of play, being nationally recognized for its organizational structure and excellent developmental programs. The top two teams compete in the DII and B Divisions of the ECRHA (Eastern Collegiate Roller Hockey Association), a subsidiary of the NCRHA (National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association). They compete at a nationwide level and travel to tournaments all over the northeast.

The second set of teams make up the PCRHL (Philadelphia Collegiate Roller Hockey League) which compete locally with Philadelphia area schools such as Penn State, Villanova, St Joe’s, and West Chester.

Both divisions practice at the Sportsplex in Feasterville PA which is about 30 minutes from campus.

New and interested players are highly advised to register on the Message Board as that is where we do the majority of our communication. The link on the right will take you to the board where you will receive instructions on how to register. You must have a valid Drexel email to sign up. The club is open to all undergraduate and graduate students, both male and female. Stay tuned for updates about tryouts, preseason practices, and possible meet and greets with the team.

Message Board registration issue – fixed

Per Drexel IRT … this issue is now resolved. WOOt Drexel!

Just an FYI…new registrations to the message board at www.durhc.com/bb are not currently sending out emails properly.  Drexel’s SMTP servers seem to have a problem with the web server that is sending out the emails and is blocking them. I will be checking the registration queue regularly, but if you want to expedite it, please send an email to cio@durhc.com and tell me that you registered and I’ll activate the account.
